This weekend marks the beginning of youth deer hunting in Texas. Saturday and Sunday, October 30-31, 2021 are youth-only hunting dates across the state of Texas. If you are taking your youngster hunting this weekend stop by Arcola Feed on your way out and pick up some deer corn, deer blocks, deer feed, or all of the above.

Hunting, or simply being outdoors with your kids is an awesome way to teach them about nature and the world around us. Even if you are not a hunter, it’s nice to just go out and sit quietly in a deer stand and watch nature.  You can get some awesome photos of animals when they don’t know you are there.   And, if you are accompanying your kids on a hunt this weekend, whether it is their first, or if they have been doing it for years, there is nothing better than spending time with them. They do grow up, and move out and start lives of their own, and it happens faster than you can imagine.

This was our daughter Alex’s first deer hunt, and she was successful.  She spent lots of time growing up in the duck blind with her dad and some of her friends, but never really expressed an interest in deer hunting.   I think bagging this guy changed her mind.
