World Spay Day
Today is World Spay Day, a holiday that is very important for anyone that owns pets. This day is held on the last Tuesday in February each year. Doris Day Animal League created it in 1995 to help promote spays and neuters across the country. The process of getting your pets spayed and neutered helps with the homeless pet issue. In addition, keeps your pets happy and healthy.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, “Spaying and neutering can prevent unwanted litters, help protect against some serious health problems, and may reduce many of the behavioral problems associated with the mating instinct”. They also state “Early spaying of female dogs and cats can help protect them from some serious health problems later in life such as uterine infections and breast cancer. Neutering your male pet can also lessen its risk of developing benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate gland) and testicular cancer”.
Many veterinary clinics and shelters will participate in World Spay Day. The offer reduced cost of procedures to clients. Feel free to reach out to your veterinarian to see if they will be participating in World Spay Day. For more information on spaying and neutering, please click here.
