What’s Happening in Texas this August - photo of a Texas flagWhat’s Happening in Texas this August: One of the best things about summer in Texas, is that there is no shortage of things to do around the state. Many awesome events occur in August, ranging from fairs to rodeos and even multiple festivals.

I think some of these events are a great way to spend just a little more time with the family, before school starts back up in the fall. I have put together a small list of some cool events happing across the state. So, if you’re interested it might be time to plan a family road trip!

Events:

  • August 22-25th – Gillespie Country Fair in Fredericksburg, Texas – The oldest continuous county fair in Texas! This year will mark its 136th anniversary! It’s four big days with great events. Exciting carnival and midway, your favorite fair food, livestock judging, agricultural and household exhibits. In addition, arts and crafts, washer pitching tournament, antique tractor shows, and live pari-mutuel horse racing! Learn more here.
  • August 23-25th – Texas Women Angler Tournament in Port Aransas – also known as TWAT This a women only, family-run fishing tournament held every summer in Port Aransas, Texas. It was founded in the 1980’s. Its mission is to raise funds for the Women’s Shelter of South Texas; now named The Purple Door. Learn more here.
  • August 29th- September 1st – Fayette County Fair in La Grange – Enjoy all the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the Fayette County Fair, an annual event that began in 1927. A livestock show, parade, barbecue cook-off, musical performances, and a carnival are just part of the fun at county fair in La Grange. See the schedule of events here.
