Veterans Day
Veterans Day: It is a federal holiday dating back to 1919. President Woodrow Wilson sent an Armistice Address to Americans during the first Armistice Day. “Armistice” switched to “Veterans Day” in 1954. Then President Dwight Eisenhower passed the bill and made Veterans Day an official holiday.
The holiday was created to honor all military veterans who served our great country. The reason for it falling on November 11th has very significant meaning across the word – stemming back to World War I. The Armistice with Germany officially went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year.
An interesting fact:the official day was once moved to the 4th Monday of October in the mid 1970’s.
