Today is International Literacy Day! If you haven’t already, take the time to read to your kids if they are younger, it’s a great bed time ritual.  As they get older, they can help you read the books, too.  You can trade off sentences, paragraphs or pages with them.

Reading is a wonderful way to spend time with your children, and it only takes a few minutes of your time.  Bedtime is one of the best times to read, and its naturally relaxing to them.  Most of the time it puts them to sleep quickly, too.

The library is a great source for books, as are stores like Barnes and Noble.   My favorite place to pick up books is at Half Price Books!  They always have a great selection of gently used books, at discounted prices.  There truly is something for everyone.  Pick out a few books for yourself, and let the kiddos pick out a book or two each.  When you are done with them, take them back, or donate them to your local school, library or shelter.
