Today is Independence Day! It is the day America commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776!

While our country isn’t perfect, it is the BEST country on the face of the earth! Independence Day is observed by many people. July 4th can be a celebration that includes family time, cookout and more often than not, FIREWORKS!

While Duke could not care less about fireworks, they scare Mouse to death. How do we deal with our neighbors that set off fire works on the fourth and New Years Eve? Let them have their fun! We put Mouse in her kennel, in the house, in an inside room away from the festivities. We turn on some loud, but soothing, music such as classical tunes or easy listening music.

I have found that if we fuss over her or try to soothe her, it gives her more anxiety than just the sounds of the fireworks. She sleeps in a kennel every night, so it is her “safe place”.

Different dogs, and livestock, react differently, so it is best to know your animals before hand, so you can help them deal with the noises of human celebration!
