Today is Halloween
Today is Halloween! It’s a super fun holiday for people of all ages. While Halloween is currently celebrated across the country as a time for kids to dress up and go trick-or-treating, the original meaning of Halloween is quite different.
The name Halloween comes from the original name of All Hallows Eve. It was a day spent remembering the dead and all of those that have departed. There are many theories for who started the tradition. For example, the most common is that it was influenced by Celtic Harvest festivals dating back to mid-1700’s.
Now-a-days, one of the most important parts about it, aside from the costumes and trick-or-treating is candy. It has been estimated that over 90 million pounds of chocolate is bought the week of Halloween, which makes up about 10% of candy sales for the whole year. Some polls have discussed that the top 3, highest selling candy, are Reese’s Cups, Skittles and M&M’s.
It is crazy to think how much really goes into the holiday, especially if you plan on having a themed party or host trick-or-treaters.
In conclusion, today is halloween! Here at Arcola Feed we hope that everyone has a happy and spooky time.
