St. Patrick’s Day St. Patrick’s DayToday celebrates St. Patrick’s Day, also called the Feast of Saint Patrick. It is a celebration held annually on March 17th. The date originally marked the death of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals. In addition to Irish traditional music sessions and wearing green – because if you don’t wear green, you get pinched. Saint Patrick’s Day parades began in North America in the 18th century. However, it did not spread to Ireland until the 20th century. Some other interesting festivities and traditions include the dying of the Chicago River green, which has been happening since 1962 and that it is important to eat corned beef and cabbage.  

One of the most common symbols for the day is the Shamrock, which symbolizes the holy trinity and is now the official symbol of Ireland. There are many other interesting facts about St. Patrick’s day, but regardless of how you celebrate it, make sure you do it with friends and that you are wearing green for the day.
