How Does Your September Garden Grow?
How does your September garden grow? #Howdoesyourgardengrow I know it doesn’t feel like it yet, but September marks the return of cooler weather and FALL begins on September 22nd! It’s also a time of renewal in the garden!
September is the PRIME TIME to plant so many things in your garden. Lima beans, and snap beans, both bush and pole varieties can go in the ground now for fall harvest. It’s also the beginning of planting of so many green varieties and the start of root crop planting season. Lettuce, spinach, mustard, chard, cabbage, collards and so much more can go in the ground now, along with beets, and at the end of the month, turnips, radishes and carrots follow up! English and snap peas do well when planted now, too.
Fall is a great time to try something new! Kohlrabi, cauliflower, broccoli and brussels sprouts come to mind when thinking of something new to add to your garden. You can also try new varieties of many of your old time favorites. Arcola Feed carries a wide variety of radishes, beans, peas and carrots, in the seed department. When our fall vegetable plants come in we will post those on our facebook page and try to get them added here, too.
