Olive Trees: How Does Your Garden Grow

Olive Trees: How Does Your Garden GrowOlive Trees: How Does Your Garden Grow? I have always been told that olives won’t grow here.   Well, pooh! They sure do!
Several months ago I purchased an Arbequina Olive Tree from Caldwell Nursery in Rosenberg (www.caldwellhort.com).  It was loaded with olives when I purchased it. My mom came to visit for Christmas and her dog ate all of my olives. Never fear, it promptly went back to work and is heavy with olives again!
This particular species of olives is cold hardy to the teens and does NOT need a pollinator! I plan on brining them and using them in salads in the next 30 to 45 days. The great thing about this particular olive is that it can be used either unripe (green) or ripe( black).
The Arbequina Olive is also great for olive oil, too. Although, I think I will need more than one tree to be successful in that venture. We shall see.
I LOVE Kimchi, and February is a great time to plant your Chinese cabbage transplants! February is HANDS DOWN the biggest transplant month, being great also for broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, collards, eggplant, Kale, Kohlrabi, peppers and so much more!
February is also great for successive plantings of all of your root crops. In conclusion, visit Arcola Feed for more gardening tips!
