National Macaroni and Cheese Day Recipe

Mac and Cheese is one of those amazing foods that can be made quickly out of a box, or you can go the extra mile and make it from scratch. Regardless of how you make your Man and Cheese, it is a delicious meal that can always be adjusted and altered to add various toppings or meats in. Credit for this recipe is from Mortadella Head and I believe this is an amazing recipe for Mac and Cheese.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups elbow macaroni noodles
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and salt generously. Cook the noodles al dente according to the package instructions.
  2. While the noodles cook, melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour to the melted butter and cook for a couple minutes, stirring constantly.
  3. Add the milk and whisk for 2-3 minutes until it thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and add in the seasonings and shredded cheese. Stir until the cheese melts and the spices are fully incorporated.
  5. Once your noodles are finished cooking, drain them. Add your cooked pasta to the cheese sauce and stir until combined.
