National Farmers Day
Today is a very important day across the nation, as it is National Farmers Day. In America, less than 2% of our country serves as a farmer, providing food and clothing for the entire nation and even the world. This year has been an extremely rough year for farmers. First, with a crippling drought and then some parts of our nation experiences severe flooding that made accessing their fields even harder.
According to the Texas Tribune, cotton farmers were hit particularly hard with the recent drought. Cotton is the number one crop grown in Texas. This year it is expected that the crop production will be less than half of normal. This could mean increased prices on clothing and other goods for the near future.
With all that said, farmers are an extremely important part of our community. Above all, if you know any farmers feel free to thank them for all that they do.
