National Cow Appreciation Day

Squishy on National Cow Appreciation DayToday is National Cow Appreciation Day! You might be thinking “Cows, why would I appreciate a cow?”  Well, think about this.  Cows provide us with meat, they provide us with leather.  Your sofa, your shoes, your belt, your car seats and even the saddles you ride your horse with are made from cattle hide.
For example, have you  ever seen anything that is “buckstitched?” That thread is actually strips of rawhide. It’s used as a heavy duty sewing thread. Dog treats are made largely from cattle parts including hooves, ears, snouts and more.  In addition, the past five to ten years they have even started using organs such as lungs and livers for treats, as well as other body parts like the trachea and pizzle.
Likewise, cows also provide us with milk, and many other wonderful dairy products like cheese, butter, yogurt and ice cream. Moreover, did you know that human insulin is derived from the pancreas of cattle? Some cattle adrenal glands are used in the manufacturing of certain steroid medications.
Cow dung makes an excellent fertilizer.  Add it to water! As a result, create a “tea” to water your garden with.  No more store bought fertilizer!
