National Cheese Lovers Day
Today is National Cheese Lovers Day. A day to celebrate one of my favorite foods – cheese! Cheese comes in so many flavors, textures, and varieties. Cheese can be made with a variety of types of milk, including buffalo and sheep. Some of the most important steps in making cheese include rennet, which act as an enzyme that causes coagulation and casein, which is the actual protein within the milk.
There are over a thousand different types of cheese from regions all over the world. Their styles, textures and flavors vary greatly due to butterfat content, bacteria used, processing style and even their age time. If someone is a cheese selling specialist, they are called a cheese monger.
As far as history, it is unsure when cheese was first created. Cheese dates back prior to recorded history. It is believed that cheese was first created as early as 8000 BCE, from sheep milk somewhere in Europe or Asia.
So go out today and buy some cheese! Be adventurous and try a new variety. I have personally found that HEB always has an amazing cheese selection to sample and choose from. Then come visit Arcola Feed and tell me what kind you got!
