May Gardening Tips: Avoid Pests and Insects
May Gardening Tips: Avoid Pests and Insects! What Grows in Your Garden? Hopefully Not Hornworms! With warmer weather and your garden starting off strong, there are many things to be on the look out for – mainly pest and insects.
One of the most problematic pests we face in our garden is the Tomato Hornworm. These creatures are commonly know for being able to eat through an entire tomato plant quickly. Tomato Hornworms are giant caterpillars that are green in color and have a large white stripe down the side of their body. They also have a large horn at their rear-end that can be used to help fend off predators. Once they become moths, they become beautiful hummingbird moths that feed on flower nectar and are relatively harmless to plants.
To remove hornworms, you can either physically remove them from your plants or you can use various insecticide products to help keep them off your plants. We personally like to use Sevin Dust and similar other products. All of which we sell here at Arcola Feed. Aside from pest control options, we also have a wide variety of fertilizers and other products perfect for your lawn and garden.
