May Gardening Tips 2021

peas, squash and cucumbersMay is prime harvest time!  You should be finishing with some of your vegetable harvests, and some should be starting to produce, while others are in FULL SWING!  Watch your squash plants for vine borers.  Diatomaceous earth sprinkled onto your plants is a great organic way to prevent them from killing your plants.  We lose a couple of our squash plants every year to these nasty pests.   We start freezing and canning veggies in April and May, so we have a great supply through the winter.  Don’t forget you can make your own baby food, too with some of your harvests!  Spinach, squash, zucchini, green beans, and more!  Simply boil until soft, let cool.  Process in a blender or food processor until smooth, pour into ice cube trays and freeze.  You can store them in zip locks and thaw the cubes individually when ready to use!  Alex used to eat tons of homemade baby food when she was a baby!
