March Gardening Tips 2021
Check out our March gardening tips! We love March because it marks the return of daylight saving time on March 14th, time to Spring Forward on the clocks. The official start of spring begins on the 20th!
March is the best time to plant your beans! Lima, snap, and both bush and pole varieties of
green beans! Corn goes into the ground in March, too! If you are planting corn, you might want to try a square plot instead of planting in rows. The corn has to be fertilized by the tassels, and that requires hand fertilization or planting a concentrated area. We have never successfully grown a corn crop, but we have always planted rows. This year, I think we are going to try to concentrate on a small area in the garden, perhaps a 3 X 3 square foot area and see how that goes. We’ll keep you posted.
Pepper, tomato, eggplant, and squash plants can all go in the ground in late March after the threat of a late frost has (hopefully) passed. Typically the last freeze in our area is mid-march, but you never can tell! Watch the forecast before you plant.
