Jalapeño Fig Jam
Recipe Time featuring Jalapeño Fig Jam! If you have a fig tree, you are probably over run with ripened fruit! I am NOT a fan of figs, but not wanting them to go to waste, I am always looking for recipes to use them in. Searching around some old cookbooks, I found an awesome recipe that includes figs and jalapeño!
It’s super easy and only requires a handful of ingredients and about an hour and a half total time to make. Please note, this recipe is for small batch, and will only make about 3/4 of a pint. That’s just enough to decide if you like it or not!
Jalapeño Fig Jam Ingredients:
1 pound fresh figs, rinsed, stemmed and roughly chopped
2 jalapeños, finely chopped, including ribs and stems
1/4 cup sugar
zest and juice of one lemon
1 tablespoon water
Directions:
Simmer all ingredients in a saucepan, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes.
Cover and continue to simmer, for an additional 30 minutes, until mixture starts to thicken, stirring a few times. You can mash the figs to get a smoother consistency or leave as they are.
Pour mixture into sterilized jars, seal, and let cool. This jam is lovely with crackers, toast, or on a charcuterie platter! This is also lovely served over a softened block of cream cheese, or better yet, softened BRIE!! YUMMMMMM!!!!!!
**NOTE** you can spice it up by adding more jalapeño, or even use habanero peppers, instead!
