Homemade Corn Dog Recipe

It’s the first day of spring………………….AND…………………It’s National Corn Dog Day!
Yes, there is a day to celebrate this sausage on a stick, corn meal batter coated wonder!  Corn dogs are an American Original and a very popular item at many state fairs, livestock shows and more!  They are easy to eat, not requiring a fork, spoon, knife or even a plate! Although it is disputed who actually invented the corn dog, it is believed they originated in the 1930’s or 1940’s.
Celebrate National Corn Dog Day by having them for lunch or dinner today!  Heck, you can even make your own!  It’s easy and tasty, too! There are tons of recipes out there. Here is a quick and easy one:
Homemade Corn Dogs:

1 cup yellow corn meal
1 cup all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 quart vegetable oil
1 package of hot dogs franks (pick your favorite–you can do turkey, pork, beef, or even vegan—but why would you do that?)
16 skewers

Directions:

In a bowl, combine dry ingredients, stir in eggs and milk. Preheat oil, insert skewers into franks, roll in batter and drop in oil deep frying until done, cooking two or three at a time.
