Fort Bend County Fair Goat Show Prep
There are EXACTLY 12 weeks until the Fort Bend County Fair goat show. How is your goat looking? How is he gaining? Does he need more muscle? Does he need more cover? Is he too fat? Is he too thin? If you answer yes to any of the last 5 questions, NOW is the time to act on it.
Goats must weigh 60 pounds at check in, but not over 125 pounds. You also need to consider “shrink” on that trailer ride. The heat and stress can account for a loss of 5 pounds or even more, before check in.
Some of that weight loss can be recovered with drenching, but it is better to start off with a buffer of a little more when you load them on the trailer to head to fair. This holds true for ALL species of animals that show by weight at the fair, and the larger the animal, the more stress loss you can expect.
Keep track of your animals weight and the amount of feed (in pounds) they are consuming daily. With the heat and humidity, you might also want to consider adding an electrolyte to your show animals water, or even a daily drench to keep them hydrated and at their optimal condition during the next few months. Come by Arcola Feed and check out our line of electrolytes including Power Punch, Restore Pro, Firewater and more for your goat show prep!
