Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the Flag of The United States on June 14, 1777.  Of course, it has seen some changes over the course of the past 245 years. However, the basic style has remained the same. The red and white stripes commemorate the 13 original states, and white stars, one for each state on a field of blue, representing a “new constellation.”

In 1937, Pennsylvania became the first state to celebrate flag day as a state holiday. We have a local boy scout troop in our area that, for a small annual donation to their troop, will put them in your yard on Flag Day, Memorial Day, July 4th and Veteran’s Day. Check with your local scout council to see if this service is offered in your area.
