February Gardening Tips
February Gardening Tips: Even though it is pretty cold out, it is important to know what you can do now to ensure that your garden is successful this year. Many things can help kick off your garden this month.
One of the first things you can plant are indoor tomatoes. Placed them under a warm light. This will give them a chance to sprout before you transplant them to your garden in the spring. As they grow, in about 4-5 weeks you can move them into larger containers.
Aside from tomatoes, onions bulb should start making their way out for purchase. Plant the bulbs around mid to late January. Feel free to stop in at Arcola Feed and pick up your favorite varieties. Another great option is using this time to plant another round of cool season greens. Greens like lettuce, carrots, and even collards work best.
Other options you can try include getting a biodome from places like Lowes or Home Depot, or you can shop online at Bootstrap Farmer, located in Tyler, Texas. These indoor growing supplies are great ways to start your garden and get those plants hardened off. They’ll ready to plant outdoors in mid to late March after most chances of frost are gone in our area.
