Fall Back 2021: This weekend marks the end of Daylight savings time, when we Fall Back and hour. Don’t forget to set your clocks back an hour, which means we lose an hour of daylight.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I HATE getting home after dark. It’s hard to count heads in the pasture to make sure everyone is there and okay.

I also am NOT a fan of feeding the chickens and checking eggs after dark. I always go in the pen with a flash light and make sure and double check to verify there aren’t any visitors in my nest boxes before I stick my hand in there to grab eggs. Over the years I have had the unfortunate experience of finding an opossum in a nest box. I have also almost stepped on a very large snake.

One night I even found a sharp shinned hawk in my chicken pen. To this day, I don’t know how he got in there. He had my chickens so worked up, I didn’t think they would ever calm down, and that bird was NOT happy when I caught him. He was taken outside and released without incident.
