Duck Season Ending Soon
In Fort Bend County, the second part of regular duck hunting will end January 29th. This gives the popular duck hunting season just one more week. In order to hunt ducks you must have a valid hunting license with a current federal duck stamp endorsement.
The federal duck stamp origins can be attributed to President Herbert Hoover signing the Migratory Bird Conservation Act in 1929. This Conservation Act allowed for money raised to be used for the preservation of wetlands for waterfowl habitat. The Duck Stamp, previously known as the Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation stamp was created in 1934, when the Duck Stamp Act was passed and signed. This gave National Wildlife refuges a way to collect money to help conserve native wetlands, as 98% of proceeds from each stamp go towards the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund.
