August Gardening: Unbearable Summer Heat

Tomato wilting in heatAugust Gardening: Unbearable Summer Heat and How it Can Affect Your Garden. With it being August, we all understand how hot it has become and how hard it is to keep our garden’s properly watered. Even if it is wetter than normal, it is still challenging with the 100+ degree days to keep your plants from wilting.

I know I personally struggle to stay on top of watering my garden. In turn, this can sometimes lead to having problems with your vegetables. One problem is easily seen in tomatoes. For example, when you have a big and beautiful tomato plant, full of flowers, but no fruit. According to Texas A&M Agrilife, irregular watering can lead to tomato plants that look great but never truly produce tomatoes. Another common issue with tomatoes is when the edges of the leaves turn brown. This is another problem that can be caused by irregular water, whether it is overwatering or under-watering.

Overall, I know it can be a challenge to keep up with watering your garden, especially when it feels like 1000 degrees outside. Texas A&M Agrilife is a great resource for any gardener or plant enthusiasts. If you would like more information please go to https://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/vegetable/guides/.
