An Awesome Update on our Monarchs!
Read An Awesome Update on our Monarchs! As many of you know, I absolutely love Monarch butterflies and they are such an amazing species of insects.
One amazing fact, did you know that large colonies of monarchs, when in flight, can be seen on a radar? Now I think that is pretty cool! They are also vital pollinators in North America, but sadly their numbers have been on a drastic decline over the years due to pesticide use and lost of habitat. To combat this, numerous programs work together to track monarch colonies as they migrate every year to Mexico. Tracking these large groups helps biologists get an idea of their numbers and travel patterns.
The Monarch project leads many of the efforts to track Monarch migration and to keep an eye on their numbers. Just recently they posted that Monarch numbers are up! While that is great news, we still have a long way to go. We can help Monarch numbers by planting native plants and flowers that can be used by Monarchs.
Stop by at Arcola Feed where we can help you find what plants or seeds you can plant to help Monarchs or other ways to help out this amazing species of butterfly. Enjoy An Awesome Update on our Monarchs!
